Windswept
Like a velvet blanket the night sky lies upon the moors
And the stars blink lazily among the cosmos
Lonely camel traipses by the silent oasis and the desert breeze tips the palm leaf in the direction of home
“All-in!” shouts the runner on third base as he rounds toward home plate, and the crowd roars its approval, dust flies up from his cleats
And on an island in the south sea, a dark-eyed girl pulls a homemade net from the narrow inlet and sees a crab clinging to the dripping fibers
What a vast and mesmerizing world we inhabit
Full of wonder and life, teeming with possibility and pregnant with possibility
Will we ever be worthy to take it to the next level?
Will humanity learn to love and be loved in simplicity and honesty or will we spend another 10,000 years fighting, hating and dying in vain?
We have a moment in time, mere seconds in the mintues we are given to exist on this planet called earth
For whatever cause, whatever reason, we have but this lifetime, no other is given, no other chances to ‘get it right’, and no other moment afforded us in the universe
Now is here. Now is NOW.
Can we not reach out, even a tiny gesture, to dispel the uncertainty for our entire race, to bring calm to the fragility that exists
Nature is splendidly resilient, and the earth has all we need
It’s the hearts of the humans that drive the future for our children, and it’s the emotion and fear that we harbor or direct that will make it a paradise for all or an ongoing torment for millions
We MUST bring our misery as a people to an end. Decide finally, that this day will be our last as separate, individual, struggling creatures. And pull together, touch the hand across the road, across the border, across the cultural divide, and say “YOU MATTER!”
Every single person breathing the rich oxygen of this globe must be in sync with one another, must value their own continuation and the continuation of the man, woman or child who breathes next to them, as if our very existence depends upon it
Because it does.
Profound pain and exquisite joy are bound up in life here on our planet. And we all bleed red.
Can we not pull our collective heads out of the sand and bring the human race into a space of dignity and compassion?
Must we keep smacking our foreheads into t he bloodied brick wall of obstinate foolishness, namely blind and futile ignorance?
We are IT, folks. We are the last chance we have. We have THIS go-around to get it “right”, and once we each breathe our last, our impact here ceases. The battle closes on our struggle. There is only NOW to be kind.
Tomorrow is too late. Do it today! Bring the dismal array of human ills to an end. Allow the babies at our feet the chance to live in complete harmony with one another, the chance to learn the beauty in diversity, the amazing one-ness that nature can teach us, the utter relief of true self worth and love to shine out on all of us!
We are too much in our own way, too much consumed with pettiness and ignorant fear-driven selfishness. We MUST, for the survival of our very species, put aside the divisiveness and unite for the generation that is still in diapers.
Perhaps when they are facing their last breath we will at last begin to see the immense opportunity history and time have been to all of us. A chance to give, receive and be at peace with one another. A chance to truly be ourselves: humans, in the great turning arc of the galaxy we live in, and we will finally understand that LOVE is our greatest ally, our greatest weapon against fear, and our greatest gift to one another.
Lonely camel stops to drink, and the horizon begins to color at the edge of dawn.
Morning comes softly. It is a new day.
Can we exhale and begin a fresh new outlook? Can we see past the millennia of lies about each other and bring the game to a close with a new purpose?
Smile quietly in your hearts dear reader, for we have the answer inside us all..
